Cologne for PSI 2027: How to Get There, Where to Eat and What to Do
For the first time, PSI 2027 takes place at Koelnmesse, Cologne. For first-time visitors, the PSI team has put together this guide — how to arrive, where to eat and how to make the most of one of Germany's most characterful cities.
How to Get to Cologne for PSI 2027
Cologne sits at the intersection of western Europe's main travel corridors. It is one of the most accessible trade fair cities on the continent — by air, rail or road.
By Air
Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) is the closest airport, 15km from Koelnmesse. The S-Bahn (S13 line) runs direct, with no change of train, to Köln Messe/Deutz station — just steps from the Koelnmesse North Entrance. Journey time is around 15 minutes.
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) — one of Europe's largest hubs, served by over 300 destinations — connects to Cologne by direct ICE high-speed train in around 55 minutes. A practical entry point for attendees flying intercontinental.
Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) connects to Cologne Central Station by direct train in around 40 minutes. From there, it's a short S-Bahn ride to Koelnmesse (Köln Messe/Deutz stop).
By Rail
Cologne Central Station (Köln Hauptbahnhof) is one of Germany's busiest rail hubs. High-speed connections place the city within direct reach of Amsterdam (2h 30m), Brussels (2h), Paris (3h 15m), Frankfurt (1h), Berlin (4h) and London via Eurostar and connecting rail. From the Central Station, Koelnmesse is one S-Bahn stop — under five minutes.
By Road
Cologne sits at the junction of five major motorways: A1, A3, A4, A57 and A59. On-site parking is available at Koelnmesse.
Where to Eat and Drink in Cologne
These recommendations come directly from the PSI team — personally tested, hand-picked and covering every occasion from a quick post-show lunch to a client dinner. The list spans the full range: traditional Cologne brewpubs, modern sharing plates, fine dining and bars worth staying out for. All information is as of January 2026; verify current details directly with each venue before booking.

What Else to Do in Cologne
PSI runs 12–14 January. Most attendees arrive the evening of the 11th and leave on the afternoon of the 14th — which leaves at least one free evening and, for those who extend the trip, time to explore a city that delivers beyond the venue.
Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom)
Construction began in 1248 and completed in 1880. At 157 metres, it was the world's tallest structure for four years. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, free to enter the main nave. Directly beside the main train station — the first thing most visitors see, and the right landmark to start with.
The Old Town (Altstadt) and Rhine Riverfront
A compact historic centre delivering most of what Cologne is known for within a 20-minute walk: brewpubs, Roman fragments and neighbourhood character. The Rhine promenade runs 5km along the western bank — in January, views from the Deutz side across to the Cathedral are unobstructed. The Hohenzollern Bridge, covered in thousands of padlocks, connects the two banks on foot in under 15 minutes.
Museum Ludwig
One of Europe's most significant modern and contemporary art museums, positioned directly beside the Cathedral. Holdings include the third-largest Picasso collection in the world, after Paris and Barcelona alongside major works from Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art and contemporary German painting. Closed Mondays.
Roman-Germanic Museum (Römisch-Germanisches Museum)
Built around the Dionysus Mosaic — one of the best-preserved Roman mosaics in northern Europe, discovered on this site in 1941. The museum sits alongside the Cathedral and gives direct context for the Roman foundations the entire city is built on.
Schokoladenmuseum (Chocolate Museum)
On a peninsula extending into the Rhine in the Old Town. Covers the full history of chocolate from Mesoamerican origins to industrial production and includes a three-metre chocolate fountain. A practical and effective hour for any free afternoon.
Cologne's Brewpub Culture
A self-guided evening across two or three Brauhäuser gives a more accurate picture of the city than any conventional itinerary. Päffgen and Früh am Dom are the two most architecturally and historically significant. The Köbes — the traditional waiter — manages the table without being asked and keeps glasses filled until a coaster signals otherwise.
PSI Night 2027 | 12.01.2027
PSI Night 2027 is the exclusive networking highlight of PSI, bringing together international distributors, exhibitors, buyers and key decision-makers in a unique atmosphere. Hosted at Cologne's iconic Alter Wartesaal on the 12th January 2027, the evening features an International Dinner from 7:00 PM followed by the PSI Night Party from 9:00 PM — creating the perfect setting for valuable connections and lasting business relationships.
Location: Alter Wartesaal, Johannisstraße 11, 50668 Cologne | 12.01.2027

The PSI team recommends five restaurants within approximately 2km of the Koelnmesse North Entrance in Köln-Deutz: Minsu (Asian Fusion), Lommerzheim (traditional Kölsch pub), Haus Zeyen (pub and steakhouse), Grissini (Italian, with Cathedral views) and Deutzer Brauhaus (traditional brewpub, suitable for larger groups).
What is Kölsch and where should I drink it?
Kölsch is a light, top-fermented lager brewed exclusively within Cologne. It is served in small 200ml glasses called Stangen and keeps coming by a Köbes (traditional waiter) until you place a coaster on top of your glass. A self-guided Brauhaus evening — moving between two or three traditional brewpubs — is the most authentic way to experience the city.
