he umbrella association of the German promotional product industry (GWW) speaks out in favour of a target group extension for PSI – Leading European Trade Show of the Promotional Product Industry. A corresponding concept worked out by the GWW working party for trade fairs "Arbeitskreis Messen" was submitted to the General Assembly of the umbrella organisation in Berlin on 16 December. According to this resolution from 2017 the PSI Trade Show is to give promotional product consultants the opportunity to invite their customers to the closing day of the PSI Show.

The vast range of new products – especially among PSI FIRST participants – reflects this notion. Held for the third time, the PSI FIRST Club will once again offer 50 promotional products companies a chance to launch their innovations exclusively at PSI. What’s new is a public voting process to select the winners of the PSI FIRST People’s Choice Award 2016.

In the rankings of the most popular promotional items, T-shirts are ranked number one in Madrid and Rome, and take at least second place in Paris, London, Berlin and Sydney. Textile promotional products are a hit with consumers. In Europe alone, 42 per cent of people own a promotional T-shirt, 16 per cent own a promotional hat or cap and around 13 per cent own outdoor clothing with promotional prints, according to the findings of the Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI) in 2014.

A brilliant idea, a market niche or a passion which has the makings of so much more — the promotional products industry believes that products and services that enrich, reinforce or expand the market deserve a proper debut. At PSI in January 2016, the sector is celebrating not only the beginning of the new year in promotional products, but also the premières of a total of 50 new promotional products themselves.

They come top of the list in London, Paris, Sydney and Berlin when talk turns to the popularity of promotional products: stationery items. In the USA alone, 56 per cent of consumers own a printed promotional pen, according to the recent 2014 study of promotional products by the Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI).

The mood was festive Friday night at the Classic Remise in Düsseldorf. On 11 September, the listed historic roundhouse from the 1930s – home today to a permanent classic car exhibit – served as the sophisticated backdrop for the presentation of prizes in eight categories at the inaugural PSI Sustainability Awards 2015. The award, which delivers reliable proof of sustainability in the industry, was created by the PSI. The name sponsor and key contributor is “James & Nicholson”, a Daiber brand.
